Founding Story
The Founders of BreezeBio recognized the power of genetic medicine to restore health. Co-founders Kunwoo (Ryan) Lee, Ph.D., Hyo Min (Huey) Park, Ph.D., and Niren Murthy, Ph.D., witnessed the early days of CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing and gene therapy, working alongside Nobel Laureate Jennifer Doudna, Ph.D. Then the co-founders and the rest of society witnessed the emergence of mRNA during the pandemic. All of these genetic medicine approaches have the power to control cells, but only if they can reach those cells. The co-founders decided to take an established technology of polymer-based nanoparticles and add new chemistry for safety and efficacy. They also followed the development pathway proven by UC Berkeley colleague and current Director, David Schaffer, Ph.D., a member of the National Academy of Engineering, to industrialize screening of nanoparticles through scale, iteration and artificial intelligence to interrogate much more structural diversity than ever before. The result is lead programs for autoimmune diseases with the potential to provide targeted cures for patients. In parallel, the NanoGalaxy platform continues to advance to support programs in multiple disease areas. The latest platform innovations include advanced optimization through AI-directed iterative screening and structure-activity relationship (SAR) analysis.
